  • Security Whitepaper and Brochure
In the face of growing numbers of complex regulatory requirements, organizations must find a way to protect their information and systems while giving ever-growing numbers of users access to the systems and applications they need. This is particularly critical when it comes to the continually growing business requirement to increase employee, customer and trading-partner access to valuable data and resources. Read more about IBM security management solutions in the new security management brochure and security management white paper.

Forecasting and Planning with Tivoli Monitoring 6.1
Getting your Tivoli Data Warehouse up and running was not an easy undertaking. Making good use of the historical data is a different game altogether. Today, Tivoli customers have many options for historical reporting ranging from generic tools such as Crystal or BIRT to ITM itself. What's missing is an ITM-specific tool that allows you to identify emerging usage trends and spot capacity bottlenecks before they interrupt your operations. Enter Axibase Warehouse Designer, v198. This product enables you to generate both historical reports as well as forecasts on disk space, CPU load, memory utilization and any other metric in TDW including your custom UA attributes. For example, by using this product you can quickly identify the top 10 Oracle databases that are most likely to run out of space unless corrective action is taken. To evaluate forecasting features in Axibase Warehouse Designer, download a free trial of our software from http://www.axibase.com/eval_awd.htm

Universal Agent for Monitoring Blackberry Devices
For those of you that support blackberry devices in your company, There is a universal agent in the IBM OPAL site that monitors blackberry servers. Kaiser did implement this agent using information downloaded from OPAL site and recently demonstrated the product to the appropriate support organization. I must warn you that documentation is not complete and straight forward and it will take some effort to understand all of the components and build the necessary view in TEP to collect and show the metric for blackberry environment. However, it is free and does a dissent job of data collection and monitoring.

Awesome Resource! Top 10 downloads from OPAL (Open Process Automation Library) Tivoli. Check these out and more!

    • What are the best practices for developing a compliance program?

  • In Our Own Words - GTUG council
  • In the last newsletter, I talked about the GTUG asking IBM to present their strategy from an overall service management perspective focusing on ITIL process automation instead of a tool based focus. The following is an update.

As a reminder, the Global Tivoli User Group Council (GTUG) is composed of appointed leaders from 20 User Groups spanning the globe, and it represents the overall TUG population in monthly conference calls to IBM, in which new topics and concerns are presented directly to IBM staffers for consideration and response.

Once a year, the Council meets with IBM employees in person for extended interaction. These face to face (F2F) meetings form an excellent opportunity for a mutual exchange of information, ideas, and the discussion of emerging frameworks and methodologies relating to Tivoli solutions and their use in real-world deployments.

From that F2F meeting a CD was created. This free CD contains recordings of the presentations given by IBM Services personnel at the May 2007 GTUG council F2F meeting. IBM presented their strategy to accomplish a service management vision focusing on integration of the IBM product portfolio.

The first two presentations on the CD provide an overview of IBM Service Management and the Tivoli integration strategy. The remaining presentations introduce you to a fictional company and guide you through the steps required to move this company from a current focus on operational management of IT resources to an environment focused on Service Management - delivering IT services to the company in an efficient and effective manner using Tivoli products as a technical foundation and ITIL as the process framework.

All Tivoli User Group members can order these free CDs through their TUG Leaders. Contact your TUG Leader to order your CD today.

For more insight into the GTUG council's meeting with IBM you must read - the July 17th Tivoli Beat article: The GTUG Council and IBM: A Face-to-Face Meeting and Exchange of Ideas
