Arriving June 30th - NEW IBM Tivoli IT Process
Management Products
Built on IBM and Industry Best Practices, IBM Tivoli IT
Process Managers are innovative tools that drive
responsiveness and flexibility by automating IT
management processes within organizational silos and
coordinating processes across silos in conjunction with
the Tivoli Change and Configuration Management
Database (CCMDB). The longstanding IBM
commitment to developing self-managing (or
autonomic) technology continues at the operational
management level, but now extends into the "out of
the box" automated workflows in IBM Tivoli Process
Managers.
The initial release of these new products includes three
Process Managers each designed to help improve
efficiency and effectiveness in managing IT processes.
- The IBM Tivoli Release Management Process
Manager expedites and automates processes
related to server provisioning and patch deployment
supporting the release of new and upgraded application
software across the enterprise to minimize risk and
protect test and production environments and IT
services.
- The IBM Tivoli Availability Management
Process Manager helps improve problem resolution
time and decrease the business impact of incidents by
providing critical information to service desk analysts
and subject matter experts to better classify and
prioritize incidents.
- The IBM Tivoli Storage Process Manager
helps reduce costs by reclaiming storage space and
reducing redundancy; improve effectiveness with
sustainable improvements in storage and information
management efficiency; manage risk and streamline
compliance through intelligent information retention
policies and integrated search capabilities.
For more information on how these new products can
help you Manage the
Business of IT visit the website.

| In our own words - GTUG council | | |
We the GTUG Council are seeking YOUR
feedback/input . . . IMPORTANT
Your GTUG council will be having their annual face to
face meeting May 23-25th. In preparation for this
meeting the council is seeking your input in terms of
Tivoli products with any critical situation that you have
had to bring in IBM resources to assist in resolving it. If
you could share those problems and experiences and
how you got those resolved so that others facing the
same issues don't have to spin their wheels to find the
same information the GTUG council would appreciate it.
This could include success stories also not just problem
situations. The GTUG will review all input and provide a
consolidated non identifiable summary of this
information to the community. If you have input please
send an email to gtugcouncil@tivoli-ug.org
What could Micromuse acquisition mean to us
(users)
As you may already know, IBM recently acquired
Micromuse. This acquisition was to strengthen IBM's
network management capabilities that was lacking with
Netview product. Micromuse will complement IBM's
products in the following areas:
- Extend IBM's service management capabilities to
the network area
- Provide better network management, discovery and
root cause analysis
- Better integrate network discovery, topology and
dependency mapping with CCMDB
- Enhance monitoring, event correlation, security and
business service management
Micromuse comprises of the following products and how
they could possibly be integrated with existing Tivoli
portfolio.
- Netcool - This product does comprehensive
network management and event correlation that
normally you would try to get out of Netview and
switch analyzer products combined. It also includes a
TEC like console called Omnibus. With the combination
of Micromuse and Tivoli assets, the breadth can grow
significantly. Micromuse monitors can be moved quickly
into the Tivoli monitoring environment so that events
can go into both Omnibus and TEC and all monitoring
information can be visualized at the TEP(as a matter of
fact there is a ITM 6 universal agent that does that
today). In addition, historical reporting is an easy step
once all the data is collected in the TEP. It makes
sense that initially all monitors feed both TEC and
Omnibus as work is being done toward the converged
solution, but this combined breadth with visualization at
the TEP and historical warehousing will be a near term
synergy that can be achieved with the combination of
the assets from IBM and Micromuse. As ITM,
Omegamon and ITCAM moved into Tivoli monitoring
family, so will Netcool overtime.
- Netcool/Proviso - Proviso was acquired by
Micromuse to provide carrier-grade network
performance monitoring primarily as an offering for
Telco/Service Providers and Enterprises with large
complex networks. It would make sense to integrate
Proviso with TEP and with the ITM family for systems
monitoring to enable broad view of systems and
network performance together - still designed for
complex environments mostly non-mainframe.
OMEGAMON for Mainframe Networks will most likely
continue on current course and speed.
- Netcool/NeoSecure - NeuSecure was an
acquisition that Micromuse made to fill out the eventing
portfolio suite to cover the extremely important area of
security eventing. This product is equivalent of IBM
Risk Manager. However, chances are that IBM will
continue with NeoSecure and IBM Risk manager will be
subsumed by NeuSecure in the future once all
integration requirements and functional equivalencies
are ensured. We can expect a migration tool to be
provided by IBM.
- Business service management - from BSM
perspective Netcool Application Discovery was an OEM
version of TADDM (Tivoli Application Dependency
Discovery Manager which was previously Collation
Confignia). Most likely it will be replaced with TADDM
rather quickly and later with the CCMDB. Real-time
Active Display (RAD)'s multi-platform support will be
combined with TBSM's analytics to create a "best-of-
both" BSM offering that will be integrated with CCMDB
and with ITM. Similarly, RAD SLA Tracker's real-time
function will be combined with TSLA's historical
tracking, reporting, and SLA definition capabilities.
