NetApp significantly improves backup and restore performance for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager customers. For those customers storing data on NetApp FAS and IBM System Storage N series devices, TSM 6.1 leverages NetApp Snapshot technology to identify new, changed, and deleted files in seconds, significantly reducing the time for incremental backups and improving file-level restore performance. Integrating NetApp VTL into your backup infrastructure accelerates tape pool reclamation, eliminates the need for tape pool collocation, and significantly reduces spending on tape hardware.

Collaboration Update

David Murray - President of the Carolinas Tivoli User Group and a GTUG council member

Did you attend a Pulse Comes to You Event? Many of the GTUG council members did attend. Here is my account of the benefits and values.

I had the opportunity to attend the Pulse Comes to You event in Charlotte, NC on June 4, 2009. I felt the event was very well attended and was a valuable use of my time.

This afforded many people an opportunity to see what IBM is doing in the Tivoli arena without the need to have expensive travel. With travel budgets being cut it is hard to find an opportunity like this where a person mingles with IBM executives and the subject matter experts who are setting the direction for the Tivoli portfolio

Two key highlights for me was the keynote address which was based on Dynamic Infrastructure "The why and the How" and Duke Energy's presentation on their Asset management project using Tivoli Maximo.

If you attended, there were three tracks that you could attend. Improve service, Manage risk and reduce cost, and a hot topics tracks. I spent time in each of the tracks and all the presentations I attended were excellent with knowledgeable presenters. In fact, many good questions were raised and all were answered.

As stated by many of the attendees at the event, it was an excellent opportunity to see the direction of Tivoli and to network with IBM, other customers, and your peers- especially those Tivoli User Community members from the Carolinas User Group.
