Subject: 3Q'09 Tivoli community research
results and 4Q focus areas
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This past August, we announced a series of
new initiatives being implemented within the
user community: 1) member profiling 2)
community generated content and 3) market and
technology insights. Today we are pleased to
announce the results of our market and
technology insights for 3Q'09 which focused
on virtualization, service management and
green computing. You can view the complete
results here. Thank you to all who
participated and your insights have been
discussed with IBM/Tivoli.
As a means to follow-up, we're planning a
virtual meeting with the members of the
community to review the research and answer
questions. Stay tuned for an announcement on
the Tivoli community website.
Summary of key findings:
- Virtualization
- Over 2/3rds of respondents have either
implemented or are currently implementing
virtualization
- Server consolidation is the leading
driver for virtualization, followed by
development & testing and failover/high
availability
- Leading brands considered are VMware, IBM
and Microsoft
- Service Management
- The highest priority driving adoption of
service management is managing the risks
associated with change, followed by improving
the reliability and accessibility of data
- Green Computing
- Over 40% of IT organizations have a
strategy to reduce the amount of energy
consumed in the data center
- But less than a third of those
organizations that have an IT energy strategy
actively monitor the amount of energy
consumed by the data center
Next Phase
We will be focusing on two major topics for
the 4th quarter covering monitoring end
user applications and storage
management. We want to get your views on
these topics and encourage your input. We'll
be taking a similar approach to the 3Q
research with individual telephone interviews
and a web survey. We're also exploring other
research methods to minimize your time but
allow you to contribute your insights.
As a special incentive, we'll be offering
a voucher for free certification testing to
the first 25 end user interviewees and
a 50% voucher to respondents of our web
survey!
Member interviews will begin the week of
October 26 and continue for several weeks.
Our web survey will launch in the second week
of November. Please contact Suzanne
Klein directly with your availability and
time zone. She will arrange an interview with
you at your convenience. Thanks in advance
and as always, we
appreciate your support of these community
initiatives.
