ANNOUNCEMENT #1 : IBM announces zEnterprise for a new dimension to hardware and software integration
Just a short time ago IBM announced zEnterprise™, the world's fastest and most scalable enterprise server, designed to address the challenges of complex multi-architecture data centers and improve their efficiency. This "system of systems" unifies heterogeneous environments and makes clouds ready for business. The technology goes beyond improvements to mainframe software to usher in a new dimension to computing, one that will bring long-term advantages to Tivoli users, including cost savings and improved qualities of service.
Today, most enterprise environments run multiple platforms that are optimized for different types of workloads. The zEnterprise supports this model and provides the infrastructure that optimizes the way these platforms work together. It does so by pooling the resources and capabilities together for a new "meta-system" that offers more functionality and performance than simply the sum of the systems. Overall, it enables more predictable service delivery from IT.
ANNOUNCEMENT #2: IBM Tivoli zSecure Manager for RACF z/VM 1.11 announced
IBM announced zSecure Manager for RACF z/VM V1.11 on Tuesday July 6, 2010, for availability on July 9, 2010.
IBM Tivoli zSecure Manager for RACF z/VM provides administrators with tools to help unleash the potential of your mainframe system enabling efficient and effective RACF administration, while helping use fewer resources. By automating many recurring system administration functions, Tivoli zSecure Manager for RACF z/VM can help you maximize IT resources, reduce errors, improve quality of services and demonstrate compliance.
Tivoli zSecure Manager for RACF z/VM also provides auditing capabilities designed to help RACF users efficiently measure and verify the effectiveness of their z/VM security and compliance policies. By viewing automatically generated reports in a standard format, you can quickly locate problems with attributes around a particular resource. As a result, you can reduce errors and improve overall quality of services.
Tivoli zSecure Manager for RACF z/VM is part of the IBM Tivoli zSecure suite, which helps improve the efficiency and maintainability of the mainframe security environment. Applicable features of IBM Tivoli zSecure Admin and IBM Tivoli zSecure Audit form the foundation for the functionality of Tivoli zSecure Manager for RACF z/VM. Key enhancements for Tivoli zSecure Manager for RACF z/VM V1.11:
- Provides support for auditing via the SMF record type 83-4, which can contain Linux® on System z® events
- Leverages its integration with IBM Tivoli zSecure Admin and IBM Tivoli zSecure Audit to provide many features of V1.9, V1.10, and V1.11 releases of the products
- Reads and updates the RACF database directly from an OS-formatted disk
- Makes it easy to set up daily snapshots of the z/VM system to aid in auditing and compliance
