Now IBM offers a new way of doing business. IBM Tivoli® Composite Application Manager (ITCAM) combines deep IT management capabilities with the rich functionality of IBM Tivoli Monitoring products, delivering a truly integrated solution for monitoring and management across the entire enterprise. ITCAM offers a single set of tools that can help your organization optimize performance and availability at every level of the IT infrastructure. With IBM Tivoli® Composite Application Manager, integration begins at the data layer, where a common data model enables a consistent view of information across all components and agents. This information is then consolidated in one easy-to-use role-based interface, the IBM Tivoli Enterprise Portal. This portal gives you single sign-on to all the monitoring data and management tools you need–for server management, application management, transaction management and advanced management capabilities.
The release of these new products in June, 2008 includes:
- The IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for Applications v6.2 helps you manage the full range of applications that make up the most complex IT environments, including service-oriented architecture (SOA) platforms, enterprise applications, Web services, databases, Microsoft applications, and operating systems. Designed to support your data center transformation efforts–whether for consolidation, virtualization or hosting, ITCAM can help you realize new levels of efficiency and cost savings.
- The IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for Transactions v6.2 provides comprehensive transaction monitoring and management, from auto-discovery of transactions at the services and application layer to transaction tracking and analysis for faster problem resolution. These capabilities extend beyond your infrastructure to support your external partners, suppliers and customers, providing the detailed performance and availability information you need to deliver the service levels your customers require.
- The IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for SOA Plaform v6.2 delivers an integrated offering for SOA management across the services, application, and middleware layers. Composite Application Manager for SOA Platform V6.2 combines the strength of in-depth Web services management with the management of IBM WebSphere Application Servers,IBM WebSphere MQ, and IBM WebSphere Message Broker systems to deliver the information required to help meet demanding service levels required of SOA-based applications.

Back to Tool/Demos/Code/Offerings
On April 21st, IBM acquired FilesX, a next-generation data protection and recovery software company that is going to help existing TSM clients in two ways:
1. Continuous and near-continuous data protection and near-instant recovery of their Windows servers that are running business-critical applications (Exchange, SQL, Oracle, SAP, etc.). The benefits include eliminating backup windows; far greater granularity of backups reduces the amount of data at risk (improved RPO from "last night" to "last transaction"); and reduced downtime when performing a recovery (improved RTO from "hours or days" to "a few minutes")
2. Automated, disk-based protection and recovery of remote office data, including "selective replication" for disaster recovery and business resiliency. The benefits include the elimination of the costs and risks associated with using tape in remote offices where there may be a lack of IT skills; backup consolidation into a central site allows users to apply data center policies (protection, retention, archive, compliance, etc.) to distributed data.
The FilesX solution suite integrates easily into a TSM environment, providing the functionality and benefits above while preserving the investments clients have already made in IBM hardware, software and services.
The FilesX solutions will be given IBM Tivoli Storage Manager branding in a few months, but it is available today under the FilesX brand through IBM Business Partners.

IBM Service Management (ISM) Entry Points
To help Tivoli's clients get on the path to service management and to quickly realize value, IBM has developed the ISM entry points.
The ISM entry pointsare based on the top five challenges customer are facing and were created to address the high priorities of cost reduction and operational efficiencies in today’s business climate. The ISM entry points assist clients in minimizing time to value through a series of documented “starter” projects which can help them achieve significant, and practical, business benefits upon completion.
The ISM entry points were developed jointly by Tivoli and GTS upon discovery that certain customer challenges kept surfacing repeatedly. Upon examination, it became clear that there were a set of five challenges shared by all customers. The entry points were developed into detailed “starter” projects and validated with industry analysts, sellers and additional customers to help address those challenges.
The five ISM entry points are:
- Discover: Understanding infrastructure and business dependencies
- Monitor: Tracking infrastructure health and compliance
- Protect: Ensuring security and resilience against threats and disaster
- Industrialize: Streamlining workflows and processes for repeatable, scalable and consistent results
- Integrate: Aligning and integrating IT and business operations and objectives for optimal impact
For each entry point, there are "starter" projects that address a very specific customer challenge (for example, the Data Backup, Restore & Retention project for the Protect entry point). Each project recommends an IBM “soft bundle” offering to address a customer challenge (predominantly software and services, with hardware where appropriate).
The ISM entry points were introduced at Pulse 2008 and featured in executive keynote presentations as well as in various breakout sessions and demos.

IBM software needs your input! Consumability Assessment
When evaluating the value of a software solution, some people ask, "Will it do the job?" We prefer to ask, "How easily will it get the job done?" because we know that a small difference between easy and hard is a big difference in the bottom line. We use the term consumability to describe the difference between a product that works and one that makes your work easier, such as:
- how easily you were able to find the product that matched your business needs;
- how fast you installed and configured the product to your environment;
- how well the product fulfilled its function within your organization;
- how efficiently the product suited your organization's usage on a daily basis; and
- how easily you were able to derive business value from the product on a long-term basis.
IBM believes that good consumability starts with knowing our users' priorities. To that end, we have designed the Consumability Assessment to gain insight into your business priorities and experiences with IBM software. The Consumability Assessment, which requires approximately 30 minutes to complete, allows you to provide your input based on your experience and priorities for 31 product characteristics. You are then given the opportunity to prioritize those areas that matter most according to the demands of your business.
In every aspect of the consumability experience, IBM is committed to helping you maximize your time, effort and resources in order to bring better business value to you through our software. Your feedback and input through the assessment will direct us to improve our products in ways that will make the greatest impact on your business. By participating in our consumability initiative, you're helping us focus on improving our software in ways that make the difference to your success. When at the website please enter the optional invitation code: TUG
